Elisabeth Wela
Elisabeth Wela (real name Elzbieta Wierzbicka) is a Polish painter and sculptor, living and working in France. She was born in Cracow, Poland in 1964. From 1984 to 1989 she studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Cracow. In 1989 she moved to Paris, where she continued her studies at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and began a career as an international artist.
In her studio in the Paris region, she paints, draws and realizes art installations, which borrow surfaces, volumes, and materials from contemporary painting and sculpture. She works on memory, identity, effacement, and divided time, nature and coexistence. Her artistic approach was born from a reflection on the visual and the psychological impact of the work of art, taking into account the subjectivity of the viewer and the place where the artwork is exposed, putting into play its relation to the environment.
